Summer Youth Celebration (SYC)

Alberta Beach AB - Summer Youth Celebration (SYC) is held each July for our churches across Alberta. Our goal is to help youth find, develop and grow in a relationship with Jesus Christ through a balance of bible study, hot topics, recreation and worship.

July 11 through 23, churches from across Alberta descended on Alberta Beach for this life changing experience. Using Ephesians 5:1 as our theme verse, students focused on how to be 'Imitators' of Christ.

60 senior high students were blessed to have Cesar Parra, Canadian National Baptist Convention missionary in Seville, Spain, as their camp pastor. Cesar did an amazing job of teaching our students to imitate God, challenging them to let go of electronics and placing their focus on God.

We were also fortunate enough to have a group from Johns Creek Baptist Church in Atlanta Georgia. They helped lead bible studies and track times, worked hard in the kitchen, spent time investing in our students and even joined our worship team.

During the second week of camp, 80 junior high students were treated to the preaching of Pat Cammarata, Lead Pastor at Carpenter's Way Fellowship Church in Groves Texas. A first timer to SYC, Pat brought his charismatic personality and preaching to share the gospel with our students.

Once again we had the team from First Baptist Church in Kingwood Texas join us at camp, and to lead our worship, they brought their student ministry worship leader, Matt Rohlack. As a part of the Kingwood team, a small team from Carpenters Way came to camp to see what all the excitement was about.

Over the two weeks of SYC, over 200 students and leaders came to experience God through amazing speakers, friends both new and old, church group time, recreation, track times and fun rallies. Students not only left camp with great memories, but an experience with God.

Some were challenged to read their bibles more, some found a calling to ministry and missions, while others left with a renewed relationship with Christ. And that's what we call a successful SYC 2016.
